
LESSON ONE: Discussion on the “Nature of the Horse” Student learns how to approach, handle, lead, groom, bridle, saddle and mount a horse.
LESSON TWO: Student learns correct position, aids for walk, halt and turns. Start, stop, turn left and right, circle and half circle. Emergency stop. First Balance lesson at halt.
LESSON THREE: Continue balance lesson at walk. Use egg and spoon or water exercise. Begin trot, sit trot and stand in stirrups without support at trot. Practice rising trot (Post) and sitting trot and standing in stirrups at intervals of 5 and 10 strides. Discuss following rise of shoulder as diagonal.
LESSON FOUR: Continue balance and rhythm practice at trot. Trot over cavelleti and around three barrel course or through lowered jumps. Review emergency stop.
EMERGENCY STOP (PRACTICE ON FENCE)
SAY WHOA!
1) PUT HEELS DOWN AND PUSH FORWARD IN STIRRUPS. GRAB BOTH REINS IN ONE HAND
2) GRAB REINS HARD ON THE NECK WITH OTHER HAND AND KEEP TENSION AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE AT ALL TIMES
3) LET GO WITH LEFT HAND AND USE IT TO GRAB ONLY THE LEFT REIN IN FRONT OF YOUR RIGHT HAND. THE RIGHT HAND RELEASES THE LEFT REIN AND BEGINS PUSHING ON THE HORSES NECK.
4) THE RIGHT HAND PUSHES ON THE NECK WHILE THE LEFT HAND PULLS THE LEFT REIN HARD
5) CONTINUE TO PULL HARD ON THE LEFT REIN TOWARDS YOUR LEFT SHOULDER. KEEP REIN SHORT AND DO NOT LET IT SLIP.
BURNT HILL STABLES would like to invite all interested cowgirls/cowboys to join in the fun at our facility. Our 2008 RIDING LESSONS will began April 14th. We will be having an early registration on March 29th from 10-12 am.
Our specialty is teaching safe, effective, and proper riding skills.
There are many fundamentals that can be learned from horse back riding, such as overcoming fears and building self-esteem. Riding can inspire confidence as well as many other abilities.
Other important benefits derived from horseback riding are new skills learned while stretching and strengthening muscle tone. The rhythm of riding helps relax the body and improve balance and coordination.
Lessons are designed for ages 6 and up.
Course length is 4 lessons(1 each week) at $80.00
